Eleven of the 25 schools exhibiting at this years Chelsea Flower Show Fruit & Vegetables exhibit will be from the South Devon area, thanks to the help, support and encouragement of a well known local garden centre based near Ipplepen.

Over 50 schools were supplied with seeds, compost and containers as part of the “Miracle Gro’wers Learning Journey”, an initiative sponsored by Miracle-Gro and the Sun to encourage children to learn to grow their own food. See link to video below:

Peter Seabrook, gardening correspondent for The Sun and Jane Hartley, Schools Co-ordinator at Scotts Miracle-Gro visited each school in April to determine which schools would go forward to the next stage of the competition. Alan Murdoch, Director of Fermoy’s and Sarah Dumont, Business Development Manager accompanied the judges as local sponsors of the competition. The garden centre has been active in promoting vegetable growing for children for a number of years, recently hosting the schools “Wheelie B” wheel barrow plant displays at the Devon County Show together with children’s allotment displays.
