National Award for Fermoy's Cupcakes

Last updated: 23 Jun 2011

Fermoy's Garden Centre Café are celebrating this week as winners of the National Association of Master Bakers Bakery Competition 2011.

Their Cupcakes were judged best in the UK at the recent Bakers Fair in Newbury, up against stiff competition from restaurants, bakeries and cafes all over the Country.
“We were delighted to win” said Tracey Vallance, Manager of the Café and recipient of the award presented by Celebrity Linda Lusardi.

“ We had to enter two varieties of Cupcake and we created a Lemon Meringue and a Raspberry and White Chocolate variety. We have never entered a national competition before and were so surprised to find out that we had won that somebody had to push me to go up and get the Award.”

Creator of the cakes was Fermoy’s Chef Andrew Eveleigh, who joined Fermoy’s three years ago. “ I was inspired by the comments we get from customers at Fermoy’s who all enjoy our Cupcakes and so I created recipes that were fresh and full of flavour to give a bit of a twist to the normal cupcake.”

Tracey said that the judges were full of praise for the Fermoy's Cakes ” The three judges thought that ours had a moist texture and they loved the idea of the different layers through the cakes which made them stand out from all of the others”

The Cup Cakes are now on sale in the Café at Fermoy's at £1.99 each.
